Worth the wait
Despite some hiccups along the way, I am very pleased with this product. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong in the shipping process, but it took almost a month to arrive, not the promised 7 days. That said, Walmart gave me a full refund for the freight charges, and after a second call to the shipping company, Seko, I had it the very next day. I think it was just one of those perfect storm cases, where the package was accidentally sent to the wrong place and forgotten. All in all, I was impressed with both Walmart and Seko customer service.
Installation was really very easy, considering the weight of this unit. The directions are easy to follow, but I would warn anyone who buys this to not tighten anything completely until just before tipping it upright to allow for little adjustments. I've found this to help with any furniture assembly, and it was particularly helpful here with the legs. One other tip: make sure you are double checking that the unit is facing the way shown in the picture on each step by comparing the letters on the leg pieces to the diagram. There is a bit of an abrupt change at one point that could cause problems. Otherwise, like I said, installation was easy, and only took about 1 1/2-2 hours.
The wood color is closer to a medium-dark oak than the picture shows, and the metal legs are also a little darker (this is actually just what I wanted). The pieces are very heavy, solid construction. The wood looks real, with the actual girth of a real piece of wood.
The fireplace kicks out a lot of heat, and looks fairly realistic for an electric fireplace. The flames are a little redder than a wood burning fireplace, but I think it looks awesome. It comes with a remote, allowing you to set the heat, intensity of the flames (vs. just the logs glowing), and even has a timer option.
Overall, this is a gorgeous unit, and the end result looks much more expensive than it is.
